Anyone monitoring MS SQL Server 2K?

I need to monitor some of the metrics for SQL Server 2K. It seems the only way to get alerts out is via SMTP or via a netbios name (unless you install notification services and jump through a bunch of hoops). i was wondering if anyone has set up a procedure of receiving passive checks via email perhaps? Or any other ideas for getting the performance counters from w2k3 into nagios would be appreciated.

PS- I thought about the SNMP route, but I can’t seem to locate info on translating perf counters to OIDs, if such a resource even exists.

nsclient can access every object which is in the windows performance monitor. so SQL parameters are available too. I’ts no passive check but it works.

Great, thanks for the tip. I’ll start looking into it.
