CFG Files Best Practice

Hello,

I’ve got Nagios up and running and monitoring a couple of servers, I’m now planning to add more servers to the system. Currently I’m editing the default cfg templates that come with Nagios 3, could someone tell me is it better to carry on doing that or create new cfgs myself?

Some documentation I’ve been reading seems to suggest having seperate host, hostgroups and service cfg files whereas I have all three listed in my windows.cfg file at the moment.

Thanks,
Andrew

If you run “make install-config” it creates some demo cfg files…
it’s usually good to divide in more files, how much to divide depends on what you expect your install to grow to… if you have hundreds of hosts in different networks it’s probably best to separate the files in directories too
