Coming out of schedule downtime

I wanted to pose a quick question to everyone.

What is the best way to handle the situation, or how does Nagios already handle it, when a node goes down during a scheduled downtime.

For example.

  1. I put X in schdule downtime for 1 hour.
  2. 30 minutes later the device goes hard down
  3. X stays hard down past the downtime window.

So in our existing tool we have to run some checks when devices come out of downtime because they existing solution will no resend those initial “node down” messages. What the the best solution within nagios?

Are you typically just putting the host in “downtime” or the host and all related services?
