Could not read host and service status information

Hi forum,

I’m following an internship at a company who wants to implement Nagios to monitor their networks.
Unfortunately i still haven’t got it to work yet. As the thread title said i getting this error all the time:

Error: Could not read host and service status information!

The most common cause of this error message (especially for new users), is the fact that Nagios is not actually running. If Nagios is indeed not running, this is a normal error message. It simply indicates that the CGIs could not obtain the current status of hosts and services that are being monitored. If you've just installed things, make sure you read the documentation on starting Nagios.

Some other things you should check in order to resolve this error include:

   1. Check the Nagios log file for messages relating to startup or status data errors.
   2. Always verify configuration options using the -v command-line option before starting or restarting Nagios!

I followed the official nagios documentation for openSUSE and verified by using the -v command if my config files where okay.
Does someone know what this could be? i think it’s the plug-in which isn’t installed correctly.

P.S. I’m also new to a Linux OS so i don’t really know how to start off :?

IS nagios running? did you cehck the log files as the web page says?

nevermind! got it running now, missed an error when i was installing with the ./configure command.
thanks for your interest anyway!
