how do I configure nagios to monitor other machines over localhost?

the configuration file (switch.cfg , printer.cfg, etc ) once configured must remain in folders
/usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/ or they have to move in /usr/local/nagios/etc ??

They should reside on a path you have defined in nagios.cfg under
cfg_dir
or
cfg_file
variables
