I’m using passive checks which update the Nagios server via NSCA for most of my hosts. If I restart Nagios and a host updates while the daemon restarts, then the update seems to be lost. Thus Nagios generates a notification after it comes up. Are there any known methods to avoid losing passive updates while restarting Nagios? Is the only way around this to disable retention?
Just because the update is lost, should NOT mean that nagios will generate a notification. It will only do this if the service check being performed is out of tolerance settings. My guess is, that you have active_checks_enabled 1 in your Central Server’s services.cfg file for the service that is giving you the notification. With passive checks, you don’t enable active checks on the nagios box. Only on the remote box.
