Plugins - Nagios 2.0rc2

#1

Hello,

I’m performing the install of Nagios 2.0rc2. I have just installed the
plugins. the README for the plugins states:

  1. Verify that your host configuration file (hosts.cfg) for Nagios
contains the correct paths to the new plugins.

However, I do not have a hosts.cfg file anywhere on my system. My OS is
SLES 9.

Should I be concerned?

thanks!
Charles

hosts.cfg is a file you MAY create while working on nagios to split te configurations files (for easier readability)

Usually your compiled plugins should be in $nagiosinstalldir$/libexec.

If you have something there just go ahead and see if a simple host with a simple check_ping works… if it does all is well

You don’t need a hosts.cfg file specifically, but you will need a file somewhere that serves the same purpose of hosts.cfg; namely, what hosts exist on your system, where to find them, and whatever configuration options you want to set for them.

Seems like that should read like this:
Verify that your resource.cfg file for Nagios
contains the correct paths to the new plugins.
resource.cfg

Sets $USER1$ to be the path to the plugins

$USER1$=/usr/local/nagios/libexec
Of course, if you are using the minimal.cfg style, then all this is in the same file minimal.cfg
