It was a typo in the submit_check_result script. I was using echo for some reason (don’t remember why now) and I had forgotten the -e switch. I can send and recieve just fine now. Thanks for all the help and sorry to waste so much of your time.
No problem, but I’m going to say this again. It’s imperitive when you run into trouble, to check for typos, line by line, in the suspected files, double checking the README’s, etc. Most, if not all problems, are simply not the fault of the applications, but ourselves. This is not a critic on you, but simply stressing the point of checking for accuracy on our part. I have found no fault whatsoever in the nagios docs nor the nsca docs.
I know exactly what you mean. Which is how I ended up finding the problem. That’s just what I get for working on this after hours (i.e. when I’m half asleep). It’s not a top priority right now unfortunately.
