I have about 5000 systems I am trying to manage in the wild. They are largely XP pro boxes connected to the internet via consumer grade DSL or Cable modem, with a consumer grade router nat’d.
I need outbound connectivity to the main server originating from the client, encrypted, checking in, heartbeat if you will, and looking for instruction.
During the client checkin, instruction would be sent down ordering the client to download and execute files. Patches, password changes, simple administration.
Someone told me that Nagios has Plugin support for a requirement like this.
Anyone heard of such a thing?
