Remote SNMP monitoring (pt 2)

I am monitoring a handful of APC UPS devices which are SNMP capable, however these devices are located at a physically different location which requires me to set up Nagios in a distributed fashion. In-house I have the main Nagios server running NRPE and on the client (or second Nagios device at the remote side) running NSCA and they are talking to each other just fine.

I was thinking that in order to run the second Nagios “collector of information” box at the remote site, I had to run check_by_ssh to make the above in-house example work. My question is do I even need NRPE? Can I just use the check_by_ssh plug-in?
