Imagine having 500 hosts for a total of 1200 service checks to perform every minute? No, don’t do it, it isn’t going to work. Well it might, but that is far to often to make a check.
Again, what was wrong with the defaults? If you are fixing someone elses mess up, then start by checking the docs. and perhaps look at the defaults found in the -sample files in your nagios source code sample-config directory.
