Best practises for Network monitoring

Hello to you all,

This is my first post on the forum.

I have just started a project to move our current monitoring environment from sitescope to nagios.

We have a Cisco network environment. And in sitescope we used to monitor up-time using telnet instead of ping and limited SNMP trapping.

Can any body give me advice on best practices for network monitoring ?

It depends on the item you are monitoring… most have SNMP timers for uptime

I don’t think there’s something as a “best practice”, it much depends on what you want to monitor
