check_oracle fail via nrpe

hi all,

check_oracle localy work.:
# /apps/nagios/plugins/1.4.3/libexec/check_oracle --db ILTD
ILTD OK - 1 PMON process(es) running

when trying to run it via the nagios server it fail.

but other nrpe commands work in this server (disksuite / disk / …)
[root@localhost]# ./check_nrpe -H oraclesrv1 -c check_disk -a 15% 10% /
DISK OK - free space: / 3586 MB (36% inode=87%);| /=6495MB;8568;9072;87;10080

the error i get is :
[root@localhost]# ./check_nrpe -H oraclesrv1 -c check_oracle -a --db ILTD
NRPE: Unable to read output

Depends on what you have your check_oracle command defined as on the remote box. That is the command you are asking it to run, but I don’t see what that definition is.

*the services.cfg is :
define service{
use generic-service
name isr-oracle
register 0

    service_description             ORACLE
    is_volatile                     0
    check_period                    24x7
    max_check_attempts              10
    normal_check_interval           5
    retry_check_interval            1
    contact_groups                  oracle-admins
    notification_interval           120
    notification_period             24x7
    notification_options            w,u,c,r
    check_command                   check_nrpe!check_oracle
    }

*and the nrpe.conf :

oracle check

command[check_oracle]==/apps/nagios/plugins/1.4.3/libexec/check_oracle --$ARG1$ $ARG2$
*

since i am using the check_oracle version that was made by : latigid010 at yahoo.com on 2000, i thought it should be easy.

running it localy is fine, only when i am trying to run it via the nrpe i have issues

  • What kind for script is it: Bash/Perl/c+? If its bash, try to add . /etc/profile .
  • Also, what permissions do the check_oracle file have? Seems like you are executing the check as user root locally. While nrpe normally runs as user Nagios.

Also the output of a script has to be like:

Bash: echo "msg
exit 0

perl : print “blabalabla”;
exit (o);

And what if you change the nrpe.cfg line to:

command[check_oracle]==/apps/nagios/plugins/1.4.3/libexec/check_oracle --db ILTD

restart nrpe and just do:
./check_nrpe -H oraclesrv1 -c check_oracle

?

did the changes in nrpe.conf

and again :

[root@localhost]# ./check_nrpe -t 10 -H oraclesrv1 -c check_oracle
NRPE: Unable to read output
