Forbidden error in Nagios version 3.0

#1

Hi,
I am a newbie in Nagios and am stuck. I am installing version 3.0.2. I have installed gd-2.0.35, zlib-1.2.3, jpeg-6b, libpng-1.2.5, nagios-plugins-1.4.12.

I have even done the changes in the Apache configuration file httpd.conf, as specified in the documentation.

But when I try to run ](http://)/nagios, it gives me error:
"Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /nagios on this server.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/2.0.52 (Red Hat) Server at 138.198.188.164 Port 80"

The errors in nagios.log are:

“[1213720702] Error: Cannot open main configuration file ‘/usr/local/nagios/etc/start’ for reading!
[1213720744] Error: Cannot open main configuration file ‘/usr/local/nagios/bin/start’ for reading!

Thanks to please suggest what is the issue and how I can solve the issue.

My first suggestion would be to make sure you have checked the permissions for the files that nagios is trying to access or use. And secondly, make sure that you have added both the Nagios user/group on the local machine and thus having configured and compiled nagios with the Nagios user/group.

My assumption is that you are using Linux… please correct me if I am wrong.
