How can I get my Sony Alpha to focus on players in sport and

I have a Sony Alpha 380 and in some of the shots I take at the football it blurs the players slightly and focus on the crowd.
I am fairly new to digital photography and am only using the “sports” function.
Is there anything else I should be doing to get a better shot?

Hmm, AFAIK the Sony Alpha is not a netbook, but a digital SLR camera, right? 8)
