How to configure Nagios

Hi Gurus

I am still new to Nagios so please excuse me if i sound stupid. I have Nagios installed and i want to use it to monitor different applications, for example dansguardian, postfix…On the GUI there are options to define hosts, commands and services.

There are default commands here for example to check_alive, check-apache!!!

How do i create my own to monitor dansguardian and postfix all sitting remotely on a remote server.

Ja, I see all those config files, problem is how do i define my own commands to monitor a particular application remotely?
