NRPE under Windows 98?

Hi all,

Due to a rather unfortunate circumstance, I need to get an NRPE solution (or very similar) running under Windows 98. I’ve had a hunt around this forums & also used Google’s search of this site & 'net, but have had no luck thus far. The scenario is an old box running some old software which can only run reliably under Windows 98 - the software & the box are beginning to fail, but the solution is expected to be replace within the next year (so no immediate replacement as an option). The box itself I can monitor with the likes of NMB & ICMP checks. I just can’t find a solution to checking if the software is running on the machine - WMI just isn’t my thing & the various WMI scripts I’ve found (which work great under NT/2K/XP/2K3 variants, BTW - thanks to those if they’re here :smiley:

Does anyone have a solution to running an NRPE version under Windows 98?

i have never tried this, but try to create a string value under the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\RunServices such as “MyService” = “path to daemon”

not sure if that will work… good luck!
