Has any of you ever tried The Dude? This is a quite nice network monitoring system, and free of charge.

Yes I have and its great for emergencies.
The auto discover and mapping facilities are great. Reliability of The Dude on our network (well over 7000 objects distributed over quite a few sites) is a bit hit and miss. I save it for network outages (not that we have many). About once every couple of months I switch it on and let it update it’s network map. In the two major network outages that we have had in the last few years I have been able to fire up The Dude and watch as The networks team repair the network. The great sprawl of red slowly going green segment by segment.
Helps pass the time anyway.
