can Nagios use configuration data from a database source? The ndoutil gets the nagios results and put them in a database, plus copy the configuration files also in the database. I’d like to have my configuration files only in the database.

There are utilities that will allow the configs to be kept in a database. Check www.nagiosexchange.org.
IMHO there is little to be gained by doing this, though. I maintain four Nagios installations with several hundred hosts and several thousand services and find that well structured text config files are more easily maintained than databases (It will also make you a “vi” wiz).
